Women’s leadership is the emergent idea that leadership is about co-creating a new story for the world during a time of radical transformation in Earth history. The old myths and images that sustained us in earlier periods are no longer serving us during this time of breakdown of the old and uncertainty about the future. The lone wolf, the frontiersman, the all-powerful superhero – these tropes fade into irrelevance as it becomes clear that no messianic figure is going to step forward and part the sea for us. We need to find new stories to accompany us and new images to illuminate the path as we shift from a patriarchal-hierarchical structure to a collective, relational, participatory one born in partnership rather than domination.

From the Great Chain of Being to The Tree of Life: Tikkun Israel is Tikkun Olam

One of the great gifts that the Jewish people have bequeathed to the world is monotheism and, today, a significant swath of the world sees monotheism as an evolved moral system that liberated us from the idolatrous or pagan world that preceded it. Most see this as a progression from a state of primitivism and sinfulness to one of piety and virtue; from ignorance to knowledge and understanding. In essence, however, this Jewish gift is a double-triangular star with razor-sharp points on all sides. Mayer and Matisyahu: Two Distinct Beats

We know that music captures the rhythm of the cultural zeitgeist, but with a world so complex there can be more than one beat. Two popular musicians, John Mayer (born 1977) and Matisyahu (born Matthew Miller, 1979) – judging not least by number of records sold – could each be a spokesperson for his generation. However, the philosophies represented in their songs represent two very discordant rhythms. The Magic of a Dialogue Group

Dialogue -when truly practiced – is a powerful activity in which the very nature of consciousness is touched. When the energy found in this new consciousness is linked directly to any change agenda, transformations never thought possible are suddenly evident. The many Arab-Jewish dialogue groups that have sprung up  throughout the United States are testament to the power of dialogue. The personal experience of dialogue is often described using words like “profound,” “mysterious,” “peak experience.” For a dialogic experience to feel complete, it must be both an ending and a beginning, it must reframe our past and precipitate a new opening, a profound connection, a shift. The Real Middle East Peace Process

While the politicians stumble on the stage mumbling worn-out wooden lines and the middle-east peace process itself is a stale sitcom stuck in endless re-runs, the real peace-making drama flourishes behind the scenes in a thriving production of peace. There is incredible energy and vitality in bottom-up, citizen-to-citizen peace-building. Countless organizations are dedicated to peace between Arabs and Jews throughout the world. No less important are the grass-roots dialogue groups that have sprung up in every major city throughout the United States nurtured by the spirit of compassion, tolerance and a desire to meet the other. These efforts need to be recognized and mobilized to attain the critical momentum necessary to transform the culture and create the stage for peace.
